Team Bio

Though its foundations may date back to as early as 1904, the Scotland national rugby league team formally began in 1995, making them the newest international rugby league team in Great Britain. In their first match they played Ireland, losing narrowly 26-22. After their first international match Scotland were allowed to take part in the Emerging Nations Tournament in 1995, playing: Cook Islands, Russia, and USA.

To date, of the 26 years of international rugby league Scotland have played, they have a 34% win rate out of 59 matches. Their most regular opponent has been Ireland, who similarly started playing Rugby League in the mid-1990s.

Participation in Rugby League has increased recently, with a Scottish division in the Rugby League Conference including seven teams, including four in the Glasgow/West Scotland area having formed in 2006. Also, with the introduction of rugby league into a small number of schools and the formation of youth rugby league in Scotland it has seen juniors being signed to Super League clubs in England.
