Team Bio

Samoa is an island nation, geographically located in the central South Pacific Ocean, among the westernmost of the island countries of Polynesia. With a population of just under 200,000, it is one of the smaller nations competing at the RLWC2021.

As an international Rugby League nation, Samoa originally started participating as Western Samoa back in 1988, before being reverted to Samoa, as commonly known now in 1997. There are approximately 85 players in the NRL that could represent Samoa at the RLWC2021, with around 20 from the Super League. However, despite constantly turning out top quality squads full of experience and flair at Rugby League World Cups, the Samoans have never gone further than the quarter-finals stage.

Samoa play their first game of the RLWC2021 against England at St James’ Park, Newcastle and will be hoping for a better outcome than what they have done in their previous matches against the hosts of the RLWC2021, having lost all three. Although, Samoa do have a better record against their other RLWC2021 opponents in France, winning three of the last four matches between the two nations. They will play against newcomers Greece in their second group game of the tournament.
