Team Bio

Wheelchair rugby league was first developed in France by Robert Fassollete, a French rugby league player, coach and official, and his colleague, Wally Salvan in 2004. 

France are the current ranked number one nation in the world as the International Wheelchair Rugby League world rankings were issued for the first time back in 2020. They have a 100% winning record across the two World Cups they have played in, winning the tournament both times in 2013 and 2017. Their arch rivals are England (ranked 2nd), in where they have had many close battles and tense matches. Non less than the last Wheelchair Rugby League World Cup in 2017 when a late converted try gave France a 38-34 win over England in the final to win the tournament as hosts in front of a home French crowd.  

France are in the other group to England at the eight-team competition at the RLWC2021, where their group will be based at the EIS in Sheffield, playing against Wales, Scotland and the USA. They will be looking to defend their back to back World Cup titles on English soil, in what sure is going to be a fascinating tournament, with the possibility of another England V France Wheelchair Rugby League World Cup final.
