Team Bio

Women's Rugby League had been played in both Oceania and the United Kingdom for several years but it was not until 1993 where the Australian Rugby League Commission (ARLC) officially recognised the women's game in the country. The Jillaroos first international match came about a couple years later in 1995 in a two test match series against New Zealand, where they narrowly lost both games.

Women's rugby league is a popular women's sport in Australia. The sport has a high level of participation in the country both recreationally and professionally, and has since become one of Australia's most popular women's team sports. The NRLW, Women's Premiership and the Women's State of Origin is the women's domestic counterpart to the men's game in Australia and has been running since 1999 and they play for the Nellie Doherty Cup. To date, out of the 53 international matches the Jillaroos have played in, they have won 29.

The Australian Jillaroos are current world champions, having won the last two Women's Rugby League World Cup tournaments, in 2013 and 2017. They will be the team that everyone will want to beat, as they face France, and nearby neighbours in Cook Islands and New Zealand in the group stage of RLWC2021, where all of their group matches will take place at the LNER Community Stadium in York. The current number one ranked team will be eager to defend their back-to-back titles, so you won’t want to miss any of the action in the Jillaroos games.
