Team Bio

The Canada Rugby League Association was formed in 2010, and six years later in 2016, the governing body officially established the Canada Rugby League Women’s team. A year surpassed till the team played their first full international match (after a few warm-up matches), which was at the Rugby League World Cup 2017. Their opening group match was against New Zealand in a 50-4 defeat in Sydney. However, the Canada Women’s side went on to beat Papua New Guinea 22-8 in the group stage of the tournament and that meant the Ravens made the semi-finals of their debut World Cup. Of the back of the 2017 Women’s Rugby League World Cup being losing semi-finalists, the Ravens are now ranked 5th in the World Rankings, which led them to qualify for the RLWC2021 in England.

Most recently in 2019, Canada beat Serbia in both games of a two-match test series away in Belgrade to cement their high performance levels as a relatively new international team, while getting in good preparation for the RLWC2021. Opponents in their group are made up of the hosts of the tournament once again (like in 2017 with Australia), when the Ravens will come face-to-face with England. Also in their group is the familiar Papua New Guenia, who they will be looking to take a victory from again on the World Cup stage, as well as newcomers Brazil. These will be fascinating matches in seeing whether Canada can make it one step further in this World Cup and surpass expectations than in their debut World Cup in 2017.
