Team Bio

Jamaica is known to be the birthplace of reggae, Bob Marley, the world's fastest sprinters, Blue Mountain coffee, Red Stripe beer, Jamaican rum, beautiful beaches, jerk dishes, and majestic waterfalls. However, rugby league as a team sport is growing in popularity in Jamaica, especially with the development of the Jamaican Rugby League Association National Premiership. Despite the sports early beginnings in the nation, it has proved to be a large success, surpassing the most optimistic hopes of the game's administrators.

Jamaica made their full international debut into rugby league at the 2009 Atlantic Cup against the United States, where they lost 37-22. Jamaica is the newest formed international men’s rugby league team that will be competing at the RLWC2021. In 2011 and 2015, Jamaica Rugby League entered the World Cup qualifying for the respective 2013 and 2017 Rugby League World Cup’s, but their attempts through the American qualification matches were left unsuccessful.

However, in the 2018 Americas Rugby League Championship, Jamaica finally got their chance as they beat the United States 16-10 to confirm qualification for the RLWC2021. With a group consisting of current world number one ranked team New Zealand, Jamaica face the biggest of tests in their first ever World Cup, as well as exciting tests in Lebanon and a team Jamaica have previously beat in 2016 in Ireland, setting it up for a fascinating RLWC2021 group.
