Rugby League World Cup 2021 has launched an exciting competition for young people to play a central role in the tournament’s three finals which will take place in Manchester on 18 and 19 November 2022.

RLWC ‘Finals Squad’ is open to all schools, junior RL clubs or community groups. It is easy to enter, simply post a short video, photograph or message on social media tagging in RLWC2021 and telling us why your school, club or group want to be part of the three finals in Manchester.

A key objective of RLWC2021 has been to inspire the next generation of rugby league players, fans and volunteers and we now want to give some lucky winners the chance to be part of our finals weekend in Manchester which will see the men’s, women’s and wheelchair winners crowned.

Join our Finals' Squad

There are four opportunities to be involved at each of the three finals at Manchester Central or Old Trafford:

For the Men’s & Women’s final at Old Trafford (Sat 19 November) the winners will fill one of the following places

  • Your squad of 18 young people to walk out with finalist A (This is open to primary schools, community groups or a junior RL club up to Under 11 age)
  •  Your squad of 18 young people to walk out with finalist B (This is open to primary schools, community groups or a junior RL club up to Under 11 age)
  • Your squad of 12 young people can wave the Nations Shard (flag) on the pitch for finalist A (Secondary school, community group or RL club aged 12-16)
  • Your squad of 12 young people can wave the Nations Shard (flag) on the pitch for finalist B (Secondary school, community group or RL club aged 12-16)
  • For the Wheelchair final at Manchester Central (Friday 18 November) the winners will fill one of the following places
  • Your squad of 10 young people to form the guard of honour for finalist A (This is open to primary schools, community groups or a junior RL club up to Under 11 age)
  • Your squad of 10 young people to form the guard of honour for finalist B (This is open to primary schools, community groups or a junior RL club up to Under 11 age)
  • Your squad of 12 young people can wave the Nations Shard (flag) on the pitch for finalist A (Secondary school, community group or RL club aged 12-16)
  • Your squad of 12 young people can wave the Nations Shard (flag) on the pitch for finalist B (Secondary school, community group or RL club aged 12-16)

All winning entries will receive complimentary tickets to the final for the young people involved and for up to 3 teachers/coaches/chaperones looking after each squad. RLWC2021 will also make a contribution of £250 towards coach travel to get each squad to Manchester.

How to enter

·       Simply post a photo, short video or caption/image** on either Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Tik Tok (or all four!) saying why your school/club/group would like to be part of the Finals Squad at the Rugby League World Cup.

·       Please ensure you accompany your entry with the two hashtags #FinalsSquad #rlwc2021

·       Once you have done this please confirm your entry by emailing us at finals.squad@rlwc2021.com. Let us know when and on what channels you placed your entry. Please note this part of the entry is essential so that no entries are missed.

·       The closing date for entry is 17.00 on Wednesday 13 October

·       The winners will be announced by a RLWC2021 big name on Thursday 21 October

** The caption/image can be used where groups are not permitted to use images of young people on public channels. This could be a RLWC2021 related drawing, photograph with a rugby league related theme, an animation or something else.

Terms and Conditions

  • One entry per school year, RL club team or community group
  • Please ensure the permission of all young people in any photograph or video
  • When posting across any social media channel please set the access to ‘public’
  • No cash alternative is offered to winners for any element of the Finals Squad prize
  • By submitting your photo, video or caption you consent to RLWC2021 using it for the purposes of promoting the competition and the tournament
