The Rugby League World Cup 2021 (RLWC2021) is coming to England and in a breakthrough moment for the sport, the men’s, women’s and wheelchair games will come together for the first time on the sport’s biggest stage as One Game. Together.

Tuesday 23 October 2018 not only marks three years to go until the tournament’s opening fixture, but also when the Created By RLWC2021 Capital Grants Programme will open for applications via RLWC2021.com.

As part of winning the rights to host the biggest rugby league tournament in the world, HM Government has committed an investment of up to £10m into grassroots rugby league infrastructure to support the legacy of the World Cup and efforts to grow participation in the sport, to be awarded in partnership with the Rugby Football League and Sport England.

Rugby League already works with hard-to-reach groups in some of the most deprived areas and the RLWC 2021 will give the sport a powerful platform to engage in a deeper way. Through its InspirationALL legacy programme, the aim is to leave a long-lasting legacy to improve social and physical wellbeing.

Created By RLWC2021 Capital Grants Programme will be open for three years allowing organisations the time to work in partnership to design and develop quality projects that will address an identified need for their club and the wider community in which they are based. Applicants will need to tell us about their project and organisation, and clearly demonstrate why it’s important to their club or community, what they’re trying to achieve and how they’ll make it happen.

RLWC2021 want to leave the biggest legacy possible, so projects will be encouraged to provide partnership funding. Organisations have the option to apply for small amounts of capital funding, up to £15,000, for items such as kits for new teams, training equipment for sessions that will engage new players, grounds maintenance equipment to increase the quality of pitches, goal posts and post protectors.

Or apply for larger amounts of funding to invest in current provision such as pitch improvement works, clubhouse improvements and floodlighting, or the creation of new facilities that can support the growth of the game and long-term sustainability of clubs.

Demand for grant funding is expected to exceed the funds that are available, however the InspirationALL team will work closely with those in the game to maximise this unique opportunity of investment the RLWC2021 legacy programme offers.

Jon Dutton, RLWC 2021 Chief Executive, said: “Following the launch of our InspirationALL programme in July, we have received hundreds of expressions of interest for both the Small and Large Grant programmes. October 23 is a milestone date and we are looking forward to making our first funding awards in partnership with the RFL and Sport England.”
