Team captain and Catalans Dragons star Benjamin Garcia is in the match day squad for the Group A clash in Doncaster, while Salford Red Devils full-back Morgan Escaré is also included.

Greece coach Steve Georgallis is able to call upon some top-class experience in his squad for their very first match at a Rugby League World Cup finals.

Captain Jordan Meads will lead the Titans into their tournament bow, while there is NRL experience in the shape of talented half-back Lachlan Ilias and his South Sydney Rabbitohs teammates, Peter Mamouzelos and Chaise Robinson.

France record

Since the previous tournament in 2017 only England have beaten France in international rugby league.

They have four wins during that time, all coming against the other home nation sides (Wales twice, Ireland and Scotland)

Greece record

Greece qualified for the finals via the 2019 European play-off tournament, with an 82-6 win over Serbia in Belgrade ensuring safe passage to England.

That made it five wins on the bounce for the Titans but they haven’t played an international team since qualifying.

In their warm-up match earlier this month Greece drew 34-34 with Bradford Bulls.

Players to watch

  • France’s Arthur Mourgue has Super League Grand Final experience with the Catalan Dragons and the utility back will ease the leadership load on captain Benjamin Garcia.
  • Greece’s half-back Lachlan Ilias scored five tries for the South Sydney Rabbitohs in the 2022 NRL season in the club’s run to the preliminary finals.
