Rugby League World Cup 2021 has today launched a formal tender process for agency partners to support the integrated marketing communications strategy and delivery for the tournament.

Rugby League World Cup 2021 (RLWC2021) have launched a formal tender process for agency partners to support the integrated marketing communications strategy and delivery for the tournament.

UPDATE: Deadline for submissions is 4pm on Thursday 12 March 2020.

We are looking to work with an agency or group of agencies to deliver world class marketing communications that will help transcend the sport and engage current and new fans alike. The allocated budget is £2.5 million.

The tender covers three main sections:

  • Marketing, campaign and media planning
  • Communications/PR and content
  • Digital and social

We wish to integrate these services and suggest that agencies with specialist skills identify a lead agency and sub-contracting arrangements. Alternatively, those agencies with the experience to deliver across the board, are invited to complete the full tender requirements.

RLWC2021 will be the largest team sporting event in the world in 2021, and the biggest and best ever in its esteemed history which dates back to 1954.

32 competing nations in the men’s, women’s and wheelchair competitions will play concurrently in 61 matches across 21 venues, including St James’ Park (Newcastle), Elland Road (Leeds), Anfield and the M&S Bank Arena (Liverpool), Emirates Stadium (London) and Old Trafford (Manchester).

All games will be broadcast live across the BBC in the UK, and around the world in over 100 territories, with a ticketed event audience of 750,000 spectators.

Jon Dutton, RLWC2021 Chief Executive, said:

“This is the largest RFP that RLWC2021 will be releasing, and we are very excited to see the creativity and innovation that agencies will present to help the tournament continue on its journey of being bold, brave and world class. We have an ambitious goal and have implemented an extensive strategy to help us deliver our targets. We would like to attract agencies with the same dedication to succeed.”

Terri Lynam, RLWC2021 Head of Customer, added:

“With the pre-sale and first ever public ballot for the tournament fast approaching, we are looking for a partner to help us by creating an amazing campaign that inspires the hearts and minds of the rugby league family, but also those who want to be part of the celebration.

“We look forward to receiving proposals from agencies that complement our tournament values and want to bring true innovation to the table.”
