Cook Islands Kukris and USA Hawks announce full squads to decide on final RLWC2021 qualification spot

The fixture will decide the sixteenth and final qualification spot available

The USA Hawks and Cook Islands Kukis have both announced their full squads for the final men’s RLWC2021 qualifying fixture. The fixture in Jacksonville, Florida will decide the sixteenth and final qualification spot available for RLWC2021, set to kick off in England in October 2021.

With 14 nations already qualified for the tournament, Greece and Serbia will fight it out for the final European spot on November 9 before the final spot is decided in Jacksonville on November 16.

Cook Islands Kukris’ route to the final qualifying round has included beating South Africa in the previous round while the USA Hawks suffered defeat to Jamaica meaning they missed out on automatic qualification to the tournament.

Cook Islands Kukris head coach, Tony Iro added:

“We are looking forward to what will be a tight contest with two nations desperate to progress to the next World Cup. All of our players are excited about the challenge of playing in the US and hope we can make the match a great spectacle for all.”

USA Hawks head coach, Sean Rutgerson said:

“We are looking forward to the challenge of taking on the Cook Islands, especially as they are pretty much all full-time players. We have a couple of new players in the squad and I’m looking forward to seeing them play.

Elijah Leriko is from the Cronulla Sharks and we are really happy to be able to bring in another young player who we hope to be able to have with us for years to come. Eddie Pettybourne’s younger brother Sonny is also coming over, he has a lot of experience to bring to the team.

We can’t wait to get into camp and start working hard.”
