Liam Claffey - Host Operations Lead

What attracted you to working for RLWC2021?

A brand new challenge! Being from a Rugby League mad town, I've grew up and been fortunate enough to worked in the sport for a number of years and I can see just how important RLWC2021 can be for the future of Rugby League.

With the tournament leaving a lasting legacy, it can hopefully provide a springboard to give the game in England and beyond a bright and positive future. That's something I really wanted to be a part of and help try and shape it as best I can.

What is your favourite sporting memory?

From a work point of view - being General Manager at Sheffield Eagles when the club became the first winners of the 1895 Cup back in 2019. The whole experience of being at Wembley Stadium, the walk round the day before, the build up, everything, it's a weekend I'll never forget.

Watching on TV (well, a big screen), the atmosphere in Liverpool City Centre and then at the M&S Bank Arena to watch LFC beat Spurs in the Champions League Final was incredible, never saw anything like it!

Then, in person, St. Helens beating Wigan 75-0 at a sold out Knowsley Road was a pretty special day too.
