Joel Dsouza - Partnership Lead
What attracted you to working for RLWC2021?
The opportunity to work on such an inclusive project while adding a new sport to my profile was too hard to pass on. I’m looking forward to playing a small part in delivering a world-class event with a strong social legacy, while learning from and building relationships with a group of talented colleagues.
What is your favourite sporting memory?
I have two memories to share. First, I grew up in a household which wasn’t sport-crazy. But despite being the odd one out, my parents always supported my crazy sporting ambitions. In my first sports job with Mumbai City FC in India, I remember getting my parents personalised jerseys from the club. And despite not knowing much about the sport or my team, they happily wore the jersey’s around, telling people their son worked for the team. It’s one of my most cherished memories of my parents.
Another sporting memory is of Sergio Ramos’ injury-time header in the UEFA Champions League final in 2014, where Real Madrid managed to avoid defeat by the skin of its teeth. As a Madridista, I hadn’t seen the team win many significant trophies till then. However, that match marked our return to the pinnacle of European football, where we have stayed and dominated ever since.
