Ben Hardman - Volunteer Officer
What attracted you to work for RLWC2021?
Being a Rugby League fan, playing and coaching in the sport, to then be a part of a tournament that creates the opportunity for players to test themselves at the highest level and create a spectacle where the attention is not only drawn by the athletes on the field but by the impact on communities. It was hard not to be drawn to the opportunity.
What’s your favourite sporting moment?
I went to Seattle in 2019 and managed to attend an NFL game whilst I was out there. I saw the Seahawks v Denver Broncos and the whole day was a unique experience from driving into the city and seeing all the multi-storey buildings covered in Seahawks flags, to walking into Starbucks and all the staff in Seahawks jerseys. Pike place market again was covered in Seahawks. Everywhere you went you could feel there was a game on and the atmosphere was electric from 7am till after the game. NFL games are stereotypically long games, however there was so much going on around the game and in between breaks in play, the time flew, and the game went so fast. I can see why fans travel so far to watch the games with experiences like that.
