Colin, what attracted to you working for RLWC2021?
I have been privileged to work in sport for 15 years and have experienced through a range of programmes how being part of a game or a club can have a positive impact on people’s lives. This was all in a sport with a different shaped ball however I had been fortunate to have some exposure to Rugby League by supporting delivery of the World Cup in 2013, Grand Finals and other international occasions. The lasting memory from all of those events was how great the Rugby League family were so when the opportunity was made available to combine making a difference working alongside great people how could I not apply.
What is your favourite sporting memory?
13th May 2012 – A beautiful sunny day in Manchester and the Sunday League team I had run for many years and for who I was goalkeeper were to make a very rare appearance in a Cup Final. Surprisingly against opposition from 2 divisions higher, Motown FC led 2-1 with 5 minutes left however tired legs gave away a penalty. Even more surprisingly I managed to tip the penalty round the post and away to safety. 5 minutes later the whistle blew and Motown FC had won a trophy! However rather than spend time celebrating with the team I grabbed my bag which contained my season ticket, rushed over to the Etihad Stadium and watched Sergio Aguero seal the Premier League title from under the noses of our rivals. A day I will never forget!
If you weren’t a Community Investment & Funding Manager, what would you be?
A pub landlord and I still hope that I may be one day!
